Due to its location in the border triangle and its international connections, almost a fifth of the permanent resident population are from other European countries. Around 40,000 expats have settled in the Basel economic region. In addition, there are around 71,000 cross-border commuters from Germany and France. The region is not only globally oriented in its day-to-day work, but also in its events.
