Location advantages

VERSATILE PLACE TO LIVE AND WORK WITH EXCELLENT TRANSPORT LINKS

Baselland offers a living and working environment that offers everything from urban to small-town to rural. Thanks to its excellent price/performance ratio, the beautiful landscape of the Jura and Rhine, the active social and cultural life and the excellent transport links both within Basel and to the adjacent city, it is extremely attractive.

Living space close to work, from urban to rural

The short distances make Baselland an ideal place to live and work. The canton can offer everything from urban areas adjacent to the city of Basel to small towns such as Liestal and Laufen and rural areas in the south of the canton. All regions are within commuting distance of the city of Basel and its surrounding economic and industrial areas on both sides of the border. These factors make Baselland particularly attractive for employees.

Jura and Rhine as defining elements

The diversity of the landscape and its character are shaped from the north by the Rhine and its banks, then by urban and small-town areas and finally by the Jura heights and the wide, populated valleys cut into them. The Jura and the Rhine Valley also shape the climate: compared to the rest of German-speaking Switzerland, the climate is milder and sunnier. This is appreciated not only by the people, but also by the grapes that ripen here for top wines: for example, one of the world’s best Pinot Noirs comes from Muttenz.

Active social and cultural life

Between the urban center in the north and the rural areas in the south, Baselland is characterized by charming small towns and villages. Here you will find local cinemas, small theaters, galleries, small museums and other enriching activities. One major annual event is the local custom of Chienbäse. During the carnival season, around 300 burning Chienbesen and 20 fire wagons heat up the atmosphere for the 30,000 onlookers who watch the spectacle. The largest Roman festival in Switzerland takes place in Augusta Raurica every year in late summer. Over 20,000 visitors are enthralled by gladiators, legionnaires, craftsmen and traders from the Roman Empire. Baselland also has an active club life with a sporting, social and cultural focus. There are 173 clubs in the capital Liestal alone.
