Switzerland's most innovative region

The Basel-Landschaft government promotes innovation and supports good cooperation between authorities, business, science and research, companies and transfer offices in the field of innovation. In particular, start-up advice is provided in the start-up centers in Reinach, in the Businesspark Baselland and in the Startup Academy Liestal , and work & research space for life sciences start-ups in the Switzerland Innovation Park Basel Area . There are also private offerings such as the Network Lab in Muttenz, right next to the FHNW campus.

Together with the cantons of Basel-Stadt and Jura, the canton of Basel-Landschaft finances the joint innovation promotion and location promotion Basel Area Business & Innovation, which networks regional innovators in a targeted manner – with events and advice.

In the area of technology transfer from science to industry, the Government Council supports the Centre Suisse d’Electronique et de Microtechnique SA (CSEM) in Muttenz.

The Basel economic region has top universities and institutions for life sciences and related fields. These include in particular University of Basel, the Department of Biosystems Science and Engineering at ETH in Basel, the FHNW School of Life Sciences in Muttenz and the University Hospital Basel.

Life Sciences Cluster Basel

The “Life Sciences Cluster Region Basel Initiative”, an idea of the Basel Chamber of Commerce, has been pursuing the common goal of strengthening the life sciences location since 2014.

The attractiveness of the region is based on the one hand on its unique location in the border triangle on the Rhine – with direct access to all major transportation routes and to the world’s oceans. However, the Basel region’s long tradition as a trading center and as a center of science and research has also been and remains crucial to its success.

The Logistics Cluster Basel Region was established as a public-private partnership to support the logistics industry in its concerns and is one of the best networked regions in Europe.

The region accounts for 25.3% of the value of imports and 33.5% of the value of exports in Switzerland as a whole. Baselland is home to a large number of logistics SMEs and global corporations.
