Marked by a strong entrepreneurial spirit and strong brands

Basel-Landschaft is characterised by a marked entrepreneurial and innovative spirit with a heightened awareness of the need to develop strong brands. These qualities are rooted deeply in the canton’s identity.

Marked entrepreneurship and innovative spirit

The canton’s extraordinary economic force stems from its marked entrepreneurship and its innovative spirit. The figures behind this statement are impressive: About one fifth of all patents filed in Switzerland have their origin in north-western Switzerland, setting a record in a country that counts more patents per capita (over 880 per million inhabitants) than most others in the world. Numerous low-threshold initiatives in Basel-Landschaft aim to promote entrepreneurship.

Michael Brenner

Chief Financial Officer, Weleda AG

Since 1921, we have put down strong roots in the canton of Basel-Landschaft. It is both international and down-to-earth; workers here are well-trained and competent, and the natural surroundings are a major inspiration to us – all of which we very much appreciate.

Strong brand awareness

Numerous brands from Basel-Landschaft enjoy immediate recognition among the general public. Recognition is not limited to the well-known Life Sciences brands, but also includes end-consumer brands that are popular beyond the immediate region, such as Elmex, Eptinger Mineralwasser, Laufen Bathrooms, Läckerli Huus, Oris, Ricola, Vitra and Weleda. B2B is represented by Clariant, Endress+Hauser, Habasit, Magnolia, NEOPERL, Ronda, Stöcklin Logistik or Woertz. Consumers readily identify with these brands and thereby with Basel-Landschaft.
